Actually things are going fine. In October I went to Sicily with a small local tour company and had a wonderful time. I definitely recommend Sicily for SCA members looking for some interesting history. Before leaving I sat down to do a list of the different ruling cultures/countries of Sicily throughout history (starting with the Phoenicians) and got lost somewhere between the Aragonese and the Hohenstaufens in the mid-to-late Middle Ages. You think Israel is a "club sandwich" of cultural layers, you ain’t seen nothing yet. We stayed in Siracusa (island of Ortigia), Palermo, Agrigento, and Taormina, and I liked all of them for different reasons.
